Right.
So, about the Pinwheels for Peace...
My principal put the kibosh on that project. Unfortunately, even though the website explains that this is not an anti-war protest, nor does it have anything to do with politics, she feels that it will be seen as a protest against the war. Since this is a private school, we have to be very cautious when it comes to politics -- we must stay neutral and not cause controversy in the community.
I get that.
But I think it's a sad day when a children's art project that promotes peace in the world has to be stopped because some people think that peace is the antithesis of patriotism. Apparently, there have been complaints about other peace-related activities in this school. What is THAT all about? All of a sudden, peace is bad? When did that happen?
So, whatever. Go make a pinwheel and plant it somewhere on Sept. 21 (next Thursday.) I plan to do the same... just not through the school.
