Come On, Feel The Illinois!

Since I'm in the mood to post favorite songs, I'll share this gem by Sufjan Stevens. I have to admit, it took me a long time to become a Sufjan fan. He is a very prolific songwriter, and some of his music is hard to appreciate out of context of an album. In fact, you might not appreciate this song as much as I do without hearing the album version. Go and check out the album. Get it at the library if you have to. It's awesome. He's probably the only artist I would camp out for tickets to see. Of course, he plays all the instruments on his album... not in concert, of course, but still... that's a level of awesomeness that deserves respect.

This is probably one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, but it's kind of uplifting, too. It's not as much fun as his biggest hit, Chicago, but it's been on my mind a lot lately. So has Chicago, to be honest. Both are in heavy rotation on my iPod.

Here's Chicago:

And yes, he's wearing wings. You got a problem with that?

I love "Chicago" and not just because I live there! I counted 4 different people at Lollapalooza this past weekend who were wearing "Come On Feel the Illinoise" t-shirts. That's fewer than last year.
